I love my A20v, I bought it back in the eighties brand new and have kept it in near show room condition with its original case all these years. The guitar has such a great sound and the machine heads are the best I have ever used. No doubt the best Ibanez produced. I use this guitar mainly for studio work and use my USA Guild electric (another great guitar) for the road.

hello,
i just inherited one of these, interesting axe. real good for rhythm play and lead unless you bend strings, in which case it is useless.
turns out a friend is an authorized repairman...err...was.. i guess.. so if people need work or psu's, i may be able to hook you up.
the guitar is designed to run at 24 volts dc according to him. the cord is just a standard tip/ring/sleeve at each end.
here's a couple pics:

I found a A20 for £150 pounds in auction I was bidding against someone but I got it! It had a reserve of £100! The neck on mine is joined to the neck (continually don't know what that's called!) and I love it! It is the orginal 1980 one! I am only 14 and the only guitars I have used are lones from my teacher and a acoustic from my sister, this one is my first guitar that I actually own! I have been playing for under a year and i am very proud to own this!

Read these posts with interest. I remember being in Glasgow (visiting three nurses!!) in about 1985 and coming across a Bond as I wandered round the city with a huge hangover. Went back the next day for another look too. I found the whole look and feel of the guitar really interesting and I always regretted not buying it. I'm nowhere near technically knowledgable enough to comment with confidence, but I do know a great luthier down here in Sussex and I'd like to give him a project to rebuild one for me if anyone has the right bits. As a matter of interest, would it be possible in these modern times to put the power supply on board? I know the concept wasn't a success, but like many on this site, I really admire Andrew Bond for what he tried to do. We need more like him! Cheers, Mark

I have the modulator 6 string with the module 5 (recording). A strange, troublesome guitar with more pick up options then you can poke a stick at. Clumsy, but gorgeous! I love it to pieces. Pretty interested in picking some of the other available modules as they are interchangeable (!).

I have a gold A20v that I purchased new in about 1982 for about $600AUD with case in Sydney from Venue Music in Druitt Street (now long gone). The A20V does not have the tremelo arm, has cream binding with cream split coil pickups. This guitar still plays very nicely though it has a few small dings in the body. I have not seen an image of a gold finish although I do remember a silver A10 in the store when I bought the gold one. The image of the pink one has a similar finish to my gold one. Of interest, this guitar does not have a visible serial number on the outside and it does not have the A20 logo on the truss rod cover next to the nut. I wonder if the gold finish was a limited run. The truss rod cover is in timber, not plastic as well as the switch and pot covers on the back.

just got a nice Lead 2 in red with white pick guard. the 2 toggle switches let me run out of phase for unique sound. It has original owners manual and Factory case. It was covered in nicotine from playing in bars and natural wear on the neck. It plays like a dream. The 2 single coils give me lots of cut and bite for lead work. I can see why they are highly praised.

Thanks for putting up this tribute
My first A20V was with me for 20 years , Purchased in1980 for $200 from a pawn shop in Kings Cross here in Sydney. It was stolen about 10 years ago
Decided to look for another
and found a A-20 Tobacco finish, pretty much immaculate. It came from an employee who worked in the Chicago factory
who was given the guitar in the 70's when they were still developing the model. He didnt play guitar and it just sat there for all those years. Gave it to his younger brother who decided to sell it via ebay. I corresponded with the older brother who remembered it being worked on / manufactured in Chicago.
It differs in that it has a normal
neck profile, doesnt have the acute V shape that the guitar is known for. He didnt talk specifically about the neck profile but said it was given to an endorsed player ( didnt know who ) & was a prototype. For whatever reason it came back and ended up being given to him. Its a tone monster ,plays beautifully as a "normal' guitar but I set it up for slide, heavy string 12 14 18r-52 and either tune it to open tunings or keep it in standard tuning and tune down 2 frets ( DGCFAD ), It didnt have its original pickups, but a great old Di Marzio in the neck and I loaded a SD 78' Custom for the bridge. Its one of the
most "organic' sounding instruments straight into a descent amp creates classic rock tones , Zeppelin , heavy blues etc. Then a few years later I found an A20V a bit battered and totally fret worn , all original pickups, electronics
and that too is a gem. Its a cherry burst finish, from 79' I just invested quite a bit to have it referetted by a luthier here in Sydney, who did a wonderful job. He said the guitar drew some interest while it was in the shop. Anyway that Pink one sounds interesting, I have never known of one ,
I did try one of the mid 90's re-issues with aFloyd Rose but just didnt have the same feel or tone , very different instrument. All the best from Oz

as a gibson admirer, in 1981 i designed a solid body guitar . i decided to contact gibson in michigan at the custom shop and had the fortune of speaking to jp moats about my design. after sending my blue prints to gibson i decided to have my guitar made from korina wood. during that time gibson did not have any korina wood and did not know where to find it so i called every specialty lumber yard from atlanta to california. i finally located a specialty lumber yard in california that had a large supply of korina wood. i then contacted jp. moats and told him where to find the korina wood. he contacted the specialty lumber yard and flew out to california and purchased all the korina wood. after building two custom made solid body guitars that i named nomad. gibson reissued their korina flying v, explorer, and took the moderne off the design table from 1957 and produced them in 1982 as the heritage model 82 moderne. since then gibson has introduced the 2012 reissue moderne at the california nam show. i was thrilled to have played a role in this historical event in the music instrument industry. jerry hester

I have a Fender Performer the same one as the above picture. I have had the fine tuning keys strip out and I am in the process of getting them repaired and I have to put a new neck nut in. My Performer went through a house fire several years back in which the hard shell case got melted around the neck surprisingly other than probably heating up the neck nut and later on it cracked off on one side (paper is holding up the low E string from it now) and heating up the zinc threads in my floating bridge and the fine tuners stripped out, it blackened the wood grain without actually damaging or warping the neck it's not what I would have liked to have happened to it but the neck looks like the effect in woodworking when you blacken wood grain. Anyone looking for parts or repairs I have been reading a lot of good things on a website called Fretsonthenet that offers bridge repair, and tremolo arms/bars, and all kinds of other goodies handmade or original parts from this site. I hope to have my tremolo able to lock back down before long and be bending them strings again as I've had this guitar since the early 90's and would love to find another in great shape I strongly encourage anyone to buy one unless I buy it first LOL. Keep on jamming peoples.

My first guitar was a Fender Lead II; red, with maple fretboard. Wonderful instrument, and to this day i regret letting it go. Shortly after getting it i had it customized (British flag pickguard from WD, and a DiMarzio humbucker in the bridge). From what i recall - this was SO long ago, lol - i traded it at a music store in Salisbury, Maryland. Oh how i would love to have it back!

Hi there,

Greatings from the Netherlands!!!
I 'm glad I own 2 models, a Deluxe (like the upper picture) and a candy apple red from the same line (with the pickguard etc.).
For me it's the most fantastic guitar, playabillity, very diverse sounds etc.
Awesome guitar! In my opinion, only the frets should be bigger.
But hey, when mine needs a refret, I'll definitely put Dunlop Jumbo 6000's on both the guitars.

Possession of stolen goods is a crime in which an individual has bought, been given, or acquired stolen goods some other way.

In many countries, if an individual has accepted possession of goods or property and knew they were stolen, then the individual is typically charged with a misdemeanor or felony, depending on the value of the stolen goods. If the individual did not know the goods were stolen, then the goods are returned to the owner and the individual is not prosecuted. However, there are often exceptions, due to the difficulty of proving or disproving an individual's knowledge that the goods were stolen.
